The aim of the Trust is to preserve the game and successes of Football for all in Auckland’s eastern suburbs for the next 100 years and in particular the nickname and history of Eastern Suburbs AFC.

History
At the turn of the last century, St Heliers Bay and its surrounds (before the building of Tamaki Drive and Auckland’s early eastern suburbs) were very isolated, accessible only by ferry boat and the inland coach route (via Remuera).
In 1906 a new Headmaster, Mr. C. Brown arrived from England at St Heliers Bay school (then named West Tamaki School). He very quickly had the boys abandon their interest in rugby and enthusiastically take up the sport of football (soccer) – which soon became very popular in the district. Those players went on to establish the Glen Innes and Tamaki United football clubs. The hard economic times of the early 1930s forced these clubs to combine and to establish Eastern Suburbs AFC.
Over the intervening decades since, war, economic crises and changes in national governing policy have all impacted the ability of football as a sport to survive in our area, despite the growth in playing numbers and their successes over the years.
The aim of the Trust (established in 2017) is therefore to ensure the sport of football is independently supported and that it survives throughout Auckland’s eastern suburbs in the coming century.
